The croquemitaine or croque-mitaine is the equivalent of the Bogeyman in the foklore of France. Also know as: ratepenate, miare-couette, carabibounet, papotchantel, micaraouda, ... He is often seen along his wife, Dame Croquemitaine (or Vipérine) and his servant, Bras-de-Fer (or Mordillard, Brique-à-Brac). |
