Steven Edmonston - English murder victim

On 23 October 1980, 9-year-old Steven Edmonston was returning to his home to his home in Harlow, Essex, England, after having a knock-around soccer game. The trusting youngster was called into the house of next-door-neighbour Bernard Macanaspie. Once inside the house, the blonde-haired, blue eyed child was subjected to a nightmare of torture, rape and murder.

Steven was stripped naked, tied-up, beaten and raped. An attempt was made to strangle the child, but he was finally stabbed to death with a kitchen knife with a single blow just below the left nipple - his hands tied behind his back to prevent him from defending himself.

Bernard MacAnaspie played the good neighbour, helping in the search for the missing child. However, despite his charade, the child's naked body was found in nearby Roydon. Macanaspie was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. The trial judge ordered that he serve at least 20 years, and commented 'I have no doubt you are a dangerous person'.
