Jean Libbera (1884 - 1936) was born with a conjoined twin and displayed in sideshows as The Double-Bodied Man.
Medical condition
Jean and his twin shared the chest-stomach area. Jean Libbera's parasitic twin was so well-developed that he gave it the name Jacques and the two were thus exhibited. The twin had two arms and two legs and felt sensations; it also had a vestigial head imbedded in Jean's body. In Cologne, Prof. Berdenheimer made a very thorough and complete examination, using the X-ray, and in his report he declares there is imbedded in the normal body a formation that resembles a rudimentary head; this he claims has a circumference of about 15 centimeters.
Life
Jean and Jacques were born in Rome in 1884 into a family of thirteen children, one of whom also had a parasitic twin but did not survive. Libbera toured the United States for many years, earning a handsome living from his brother. He married and had four children, eventually retiring from the business and moving with his family back to Italy. Jean (and Jacques) passed away in 1934, at the age of 50.
