Kusshii (クッシー) is the name of a lake monster said to be living in Hokkaidō's Lake Kussharo.
Etymology
The name Kusshii may have been taken from the popular Japanese myth of Susano and Orochi, in which Susano, a man banished from heaven seeks to rescue an elderly couples' daughter named Kusshii in return for her hand in marriage.
Description
According to eyewitness accounts, Kusshi is 10 to 20 meters (30 to 60 ft) long and has humps on its back, a long neck and a pair of horns on its head. Reports suggest it can swim as fast as a motorboat.
Sightings
Kusshii’s most famous appearances include a 1973 sighting by 40-member team of biologists from Hokkaido University, as well as 15 separate reports by tourists in 1974.
