La Guita Xica is a dragon in the folklore of Catalonia (Spain).

Etymology

La Guita Xica was formerly called Mulafera or Mulaguita which is a kind of "mule that is kicking the foot up".

Description

La Guita Xica has a green body, and a very long neck and fangs. It also has dark, shining eyes.

Powers

La Guita Xica is a protective dragon that defends the people of Catalonia and the Eucharist's festivals of Patum de Berga.

History/Beliefs

La Guita Xica was originally a demon, but has changed to a protective dragon in the spirit of the Eucharist festival at the end of the XIXth century. During the festivals, large representations of the dragon were built in the town squares, spitting fireworks.
