This is a name given to a cryptozoological primate/hominid in Ontario since the 1920's. It is said to be 2.3m (7ft) in height and is said to possess a coat of shaggy yellow hair.

The history of Old Yellow Top

Ontario is not especially connected to Sasquatch like British Columbia and Alberta are, but from all the reports from this province, there is one that did become somewhat well known to most cryptozoologists. This mysterious creature had been known as 'Yellow Top', but after the Second World War (1939 to 1949), it was dubbed 'Old Yellow Top', probably due to the animal's (older) age. The earliest reported sighting of this creature was on September 1906, when a group of men building the head frame at the Violet Mine, east of Cobalt, Ontario, saw a strange, two legged creature. More sightings were soon reported, such as in 1923, when two prospectors saw what they first thought was a bear picking at blueberries. The creature got up and went away after one of the two men threw a rock at it. They later described it as being all covered with black hair, except for the top of its head, which was said to have been yellow. In 1947, a woman and her child saw the creature walking towards Lake Gillies.

The last reported sighting of Old Yellow Top was in 1970, when 27 miners were on their way to work on a bus. The driver saw the creature walk across the middle of the road, forcing him to swerve to avoid 'it'. The bus nearly had a fatal crash down a nearby rock cut. The driver, who before the incident had never believed the tales of Old Yellow Top, first thought it was a bear, until he saw the lightly coloured hair, almost down to the shoulders.
