I just want to confirm hearing of this particular legend. There was a military fort here back in World War II, it was called Ft. McClellan. This is where I heard they tried to breed this part mountain lion and part gray wolf, and I don't know whatother creature,if any = and the creature they bred escaped back into the thousands of acres of land on the fort and ended up near Mt. Cheaha in the next county. I also have heard of men hunting at night in this area back in the 50's & 60's and the dogs howling and being scared and not chasing this strange sound they heard-but staying by the campfire shivering from fright. I have heard of men saying they had never heard anything like the awful howls it made-part human sounding/part animal, but it always was just a little out of their view, shadowy, fast, - It was supposed to be the fastest thing on four legs! Anyway, my dad used to tell the grandkids about this too=and I've heard other people in this area say their granddad's told of this strange creature called a Wampus cat that lived back in the swamps of Northeast Alabama!
