Guadalupe and Josefina Hinojosa

Guadalupe and Josefina Hinojosa

Guadalupe and Josefina Hinojosa were conjoined twins and sideshow performers.

Medical condition

Guadalupe and Josefina were of the xipho-omphalopagus type (joined at the sternum and abdomen).

Life

Guadalupe and Josefina Hinojosa were born in Havana, Cuba on November 25, 1912, to Diego Francisco Hinojosa and Maria de Jesus Alcala. The sisters appeared as a sideshow attraction until a surgeon in San Antonio decided that he could separate the little girls. They underwent the surgery in 1917, at the age of five. Josefina, the larger, stronger twin, was given the shared liver. Without a liver, Guadalupe quickly died. Josefina died in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, on January 19, 2002, the oldest former conjoined twin on record.
