Kerakera-onna is one of the most beloved youkai in Japanese mythology as she wants to bring joy and laughter to everyone.
Etymology
Kera-kera Onna is named after the sound of laughter (kerakera).
Origin
In the Edo period, it is said, a beautiful woman brought laughter and happiness with the sound of her own laughing and her unique sense of humor, wherever she went. Although she would only be seen for a short time in any one place, she often returned to bring mirth and enjoyment to everyone.
Appearance
Kera-kera Onna often appears with a head much larger than her body and exaggerated, comical features that she can rearrange at will. With a talent for showy, ridiculous clothes, she tries everything she can to make people laugh.
